Flotation Therapy – Time to Float!

Have you heard of flotation therapy? I had briefly before but didn’t know in detail how beneficial it can be. You float around in a flotation tank which contains 10 inches of super-saturated salt solution. This creates an environment similar to the Dead Sea which enables you to float effortlessly on the surface. Once inside the pod it’s the complete darkness, silence and freedom from the sense of touch and gravity that allows your primary senses to be deceived. This leaves the ‘left side’ of your brain with very little to do and so it begins to slow. This triggers a relaxed state so profound that your brain and body are fooled into believing that both are asleep.

Well I had my first experience of floating around in Stafford this week. I had pulled a back muscle in yoga and needed some TLC in recovering quickly. As soon as I stepped into the tank and started to float the pressure that I had felt previously on my back lifted instantly. I remember being in there for what seemed 10 minutes, well actually the hour had passed already. A deeply relaxing feeling came over me and my first thoughts were wow. The back pain I originally went in for had gone but I had another pain at the bottom of my back. I thought that is strange, however the following day I was pain free. It seems the flotation tank realigns your posture, so what I was feeling was my body in the correct posture.

Floating has been scientifically tested to improve many conditions, please visit http://www.timetofloat.co.uk where you can find so much more information. If you have any questions Mark who runs the center is very knowledgeable and a lovely chap, that is there to help.
